Generate XHTML

Notes:

I couldn't find a standalone validator, so I ended up validating it by running HTML Tidy on the output, and comparing that output to the original (after some whitespace fiddling). I'm not thrilled with that, and I don't entirely trust HTML Tidy; maybe I should use the W3C's validator instead? (I did run some of my pages on the latter manually.)
