Ratings range from 1 (bad) to 4 (excellent). Loosely speaking, they can be interpreted as follows:
- 1 Wished I hadn't spent time on it.
- 2 Glad I checked it out of the library.
- 3 Glad I bought it.
- 4 Better than 3.
Ratings 2 through 4 are all positive; rating 1 is negative. Within the positive range, a higher number comes from a combination of my thinking I'm likely to reread it, my enjoying it, and its having an effect on how I think.
